A Pakistani student has developed the world’s largest Urdu language AI model, ‘Qalb’, marking a major breakthrough in artificial intelligence and Urdu language technology.

A Pakistani student has achieved a major milestone in artificial intelligence by developing the world’s largest Urdu language AI model, named ‘Qalb’. This groundbreaking innovation is expected to revolutionize Urdu language processing, AI research, and digital communication, placing Pakistan on the global AI technology map.

LAHORE: Pakistan’s own Chatgpt in Urdu, “Qalb,” has officially been launched, marking a historic milestone in the country’s digital and technological journey. Developed under the leadership of Taimoor Hassan, a Pakistani student currently studying in the United States, Qalb is now recognised as the world’s largest Language Model (LLM) built exclusively for the Urdu language.Trained on an extensive dataset of 1.97 billion tokens and evaluated across more than seven international benchmarking frameworks, Qalb existing Urdu-focused AI models on key real-world performance metrics, setting a new benchmark for natural language processing and AI innovation in Pakistan.
Hassan is a young serial entrepreneur who has successfully launched and exited 13 startups. A former Microsoft Cup winner, he has represented Pakistan at various international forums and earned his Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science from FAST University.He is currently pursuing a Master’s degree in Computer Science and Software Engineering at Auburn University, where he is actively working on advanced technology and artificial intelligence projects.
Urdu spoken is more than 230 million people worldwide, Qalb addresses a long-standing technological gap by enabling advanced AI solutions in the national language. The model is designed to support local businesses, startups, educational platforms, digital services, and voice-based AI applications.“I had the opportunity to contribute in a small way to a much bigger mission for the country,” Hassan said. “Together with my undergraduate roommates and teammates, Jawad Ahmed and Muhammad Awais, we are committed to continuously fine-tuning localized AI models for niche industries, which we believe can become a major breakthrough for Pakistan.”
